How Best to Engage Parents Through Photo Sharing
The best way to engage parents through photo sharing is by sending one or two quality photos per child per week.
Some programs may wish to send more, however we *highly recommend* sending no more than one or two photos per day at maximum.
Two reasons to resist taking too many photos:
- As educators, our time should be spent with the children and not creating photo albums. There's no way around it, taking too many photos takes away from important time with the children.
- We know it's tempting to send families many photos throughout the day (parents may even try to demand it!). But trust us, resist this temptation. The reason is, parents will eventually experience photo fatigue; or worse, the novelty of new photos may wear off completely.
By following these best practices, parents will get to see the highlights of their child's day/week with you, and continue to appreciate it day in and day out.
Tips for Documenting a Learning Story with Multiple Photos
Create a Collage
You can now create a collage of up to 4 pictures right in HiMama!

Record Videos
Take a short (1 minute) video to showcase the activity.
Note: The length of the video will depend on your device's camera quality. The maximum size of the video file can be up to 20MB.
Include Only in Daily Report
Select the activity update multiple times and upload another photo. After adding a second or third photo, select the option to "Only Include In Report" to prevent parents from experiencing email fatigue. Choosing this option will make it so that the photo will still be present in the daily report and portfolios, but parents won't be sent an additional email for it.

Hi Auntie's Playhouse! You can clear this issue by un-installing and re-installing the app. We updated our Kindle Fire app recently so this should resolve your issue for you :)
I am a new user of this software. I wrote one comment and uploaded one picture related to the comment. I selected 5 children to create an entry. But it did not upload and didn't let me put my comment as well . Can you comment on this?
How do you remove a picture from the photo journal?
Is there a way to add the photos to the portfolio? What about pre HiMama photos?
Hi Overlea,
It sounds like this may be a wifi issue. I will open a ticket with you so we can investigate this issue further together.
Hi All About Me Learning Center,
To delete a picture from the photo journal, simply find the child's profile> Daily Reports > Actions > Re-open & edit > find the photo/update type that needs to be deleted > Click "delete" or "edit" > Save and then you can re-send the daily report.
I'll also include instructions on how to edit a child's report as a director HERE through this article in our help center.
Hi Door County YMCA,
Photos from the daily reports will be included in the child's portfolio. You can add photos from your device's photo gallery when making an update on a daily report.
Hi is there a way to show the photo journal as a slideshow at the end of year celebration?
My parents used to have a PDF attachment so they could download the photos to there phones easily, but since the update this option is not available. What is the easiest way for parents to now save the photos?
Hi Kids Kampus!
As a security measure, photos remain active in emails for 48 hours. After that time they are removed, but can still be accessed from the HiMama app or website.
Parents can download photos from within the HiMama App by tapping on the Photo Journal in the top left corner, selecting the image, and then tapping the "Download" button. For recent photos they can also select them right from their home screen. These steps also work on himama.com!
